There's been a flurry of book prizes announced over the past month. Here's a run-down of 10 of them, arranged in alphabetical order according to the prize name.
Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize
What is it? The UK's only award for comic literature.
What does the winner receive? A jeroboam of Champagne Bollinger Special Cuvée, 52 volumes of the Everyman Wodehouse edition and a Gloustershire old spots pig is named after the winning novel.
Which book won it? Zoo Time by Howard Jacobson.
Commonwealth Book Prize (overall winner)
What is it? Prize for the best first book by a writer aged 18 and over from a Commonwealth country.
What does the winner receive? Regional winners receive £2,500 and the overall winner receives £10,000.
Which book won it? The Death of Bees by Lisa O'Donnell.
Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award
What is it? The largest monetary prize for fiction available solely to Irish authors.
What does the winner receive? €15,000.
Which book won it? This is the Way by Gavin Corbett.
Independent Foreign Fiction Prize
What is it? The prize celebrates an exceptional work of fiction by a living author which has been translated into English from any other language and published in the United Kingdom.
What does the winner receive? £10,000.
Which book won it? The Detour by Gerbrand Bakker.
International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award
What is it? One of the world's richest literary prizes for a work of fiction — nominations are submitted by public libraries worldwide.
What does the winner receive? €100,000.
Which book won it? City of Bohane by Kevin Barry.
The Orwell Book Prize
What is it? Britain’s most prestigious prize for political writing.
What does the winner receive? £3,000.
Which book won it? A Very British Killing: The Death of Baha Mousa by A.T. Williams.
Romantic Novel of the Year award
Pulitzer Prize for Fiction
What is it? For distinguished fiction by an American author, preferably dealing with American life.
What does the winner receive? $10,000.
Which book won it? The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson.
What is it? The Romantic Novelists' Association’s (RNA) highest accolade for romantic fiction.
What does the winner receive? A commemorative plate.
Which book won it? Welcome to Rosie Hopkins' Sweetshop of Dreams by Jenny Coglan.
The Stella Prize
What is it? Women's only prize for Australian writers.
What does the winner receive? $50,000.
Which book won it? Mateship with Birds by Carrie Tiffany.
Women's Prize for Fiction
What is it? International women's only prize for English language writers.
What does the winner receive? £30,000 and a limited edition bronze known as a ‘Bessie’, created and donated by the artist Grizel Niven.
