Apologies for the short notice, but I've decided it's time to get the bunting out to celebrate Australian literature once again. You may remember that I ran my first Australian Literature Month last year. It was so much fun that I wanted to run it again in 2013.
What is Australian Literature Month?
Australian Literature Month is a month-long celebration of Australian writers and literature being hosted here at Reading Matters. During the month I plan on dusting off my TBR and reading several Australian novels. I'll be writing about them on the blog and encouraging as many people to participate as I go. There may even be a giveaway or two.
I will also be tweeting using the hashtag #OzLitMonth
When is it being held?
It will run during April 2013.
Who can take part?
Anyone can take part. All you need to do is read an Australian book or two, post about Australian literature on your own blog or simply engage in the conversation on this blog. If you don't have a blog, don't worry — you just need to be willing to read something by an Australian writer and maybe comment on other people's posts. You could also share the love on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, GoodReads and other social media, too.
And feel free to read novels, non-fiction, poetry or short stories — if it's by an Australian writer, it counts!
Please note this isn't a reading challenge, it's simply an opportunity to read an Australian book or two (or more) and celebrate Australian literature with other people in April.
Are there any resources you can recommend where I can find out more about Australian literature?
There are plenty, but here’s a few resources that might come in useful:
- Perry Middlemiss's Australian Literature website
- 50 Must Read Australian Novels (excellent list on the Booktopia Blog)
There are bound to be loads more resources online (please do leave links below in the comments if you know of any), but this is a good start. Alternatively, just Google "Australian literature" and see what comes up.
I don't have any Australian novels to hand — can I read a New Zealand novel instead?
Well, you could, but you wouldn't be celebrating Australian Literature Month. Sorry.
Of course! Feel to download the badge and use it whenever you publish a post relating to Australian literature during April 2013. (But please don't link to it directly or that will impact on my bandwidth.) The badge measure 300 pixels by 300 pixels, but I have it displayed at 150 pixels by 150 pixels.
How do I let you know I've posted something for Australian Literature Month?
When the month kicks off I will also set up a Simply Linked service so you can submit links to your reviews directly on this site for everyone to see and click through. Alternatively, you can email me (readingmatters @ gmail.com) with "Australian Literature Month" in the subject line and I'll endeavour to publish a few round-up posts as we go along...
Is there a feed I can subscribe to?
So, what do you think? Anyone keen to participate? Got any books or writers to suggest? Anything in particular you'd like me to cover or post about? I'm looking forward to it already...
