I think I might have a problem. A few days after posting my last haul of books, four more arrive at Chez Reading Matters. From the top down:
Nuala O'Faolain's Almost There
This is the second and final part of her memoir. I've just finished reading the first -- Are You Somebody? -- and absolutely loved it. I'll try and post my review in the next few days.
Patrick White's Riders in the Chariot
I bought this secondhand copy at the stalls which set up under Waterloo Bridge, near the National Theatre, on Tuesday during a lunchtime stroll. I've loved the three White novels that I've read in the past, and really want to work my way through his back catalogue. He's not a writer you tackle lightly, though. One Patrick White book a year should do me. This one, first published in 1961, is supposedly his most accessible, or at least it was the one that achieved some measure of commercial success, so it shouldn't be as daunting as the others I've read.
Patrick McGrath's Spider
Another picked up at the secondhand book stalls under Waterloo Bridge. I've recently finished reading McGrath's Trauma (review forthcoming) and feel a deep need to read more by this writer.
John MacKenna's The Space Between Me
I discovered this book by accident when I was perusing the New Island Books website on the weekend and really liked the sound of it. It's about a man who loses his wife in a car accident and has to raise his daughter alone.
