It's 11am, I am in my PJs, curled up on the sofa under a warm, fleecy rug, with a cup of steaming coffee at the ready and a mince pie to munch on. I can't remember ever having done that on a Wednesday morning before! I am sooooooo enjoying these holidays.
But that's not the best part. The best part is a fresh parcel of books, delivered by the postman just 30 minutes ago, containing four brand new novels from the Random House website courtesy of its 40 per cent off everything sale (which, by the way, runs until January 6, just in case you're tempted).
If you're interested, I purchased the following:
- Real World by Natsuo Kirino
- Grotesque by Natsuo Kirino
- Talking About O'Dwyer by C.K. Stead
- Diary of a Bad Year by J.M. Coetzee
Despite the fact I only received one book for Christmas this year -- Charley Boorman's By Any Means (it's become a kind of Christmas tradition to receive a Boorman "adventure" book with associated DVD from my Other Half) -- I haven't done too badly in the book stakes.
Other books I have acquired in recent days include:
- Tokyo Year Zero by David Peace
- To Siberia by Per Petterson
- Matrimony by Joshua Henkin
- The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama
- Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon
Perhaps my New Year's resolution should be to stop acquiring so many books and start whittling down that bloody great stack of unread novels and non-fiction tomes going quietly dusty on top of my wardrobe, my dresser, my bedside table and in our storage room!
What have you acquired lately?
