And the colour palette for new hardcover fiction books shall be...

... black, grey, red, pink and variations thereof.

Either all these publishers are employing the same designer, or someone's worked out this colour scheme stands out on the shelf. Whatever the case, I couldn't help but notice this colour palette on about 25 per cent of the books on the display tables at Waterstone's tonight, so, if nothing else, it's eye-catching.

Oh, and it looks remarkably similar to the the design here at Reading Matters too.
