Who says crime doesn't pay? For one lucky reader it does!
Thank-you to everyone who took part in my competition to win a copy of Karin Fossum's Scandinavian crime thriller Don't Look Back.
I enjoyed discovering everyone's favourite crime novelists, so if you're looking for some inspiration you might like to try:
- Michael Connelly (recommended by Brandon of The Bibliosphere);
- Ian Rankin (Susan Kenna, and Lazy Cow of Only Books All The Time);
- Jim Thompson (Amanda of Amanda's Zen);
- PD James (Leah of Eiron, and Meika of meika loofs samorzewski);
- Lindsey Davis (Julia, and The Wandering Author from the Unending Journey of...);
- Gabrielle Lord (Wendy);
- Patricia Highsmith (Patricia of BookLust);
- Andrew Vachss (Sophie of The Redhead Has Spoken);
- Dorothy L. Sayers' Gaudy Night (Amy from Books, Words, and Writing);
- Arnaldur Indriðason (Kate from Books Give Wings);
- John Dunning's Booked To Die (Trav from {head}: sub/head);
- Elmore Leonard (Marshal Zeringue from Campaign for the American Reader);
- Erica Spindler (Ally Tuxhill); and
- Tess Gerritsen (ainelivia from Aine Livia at the Midnight Garden)
Inspiration aside, you want to know who won, right? Well, there were 17 entries. Each name was written onto a piece of paper...
...and those pieces of paper were folded in half.
And because I couldn't find a hat, I shoved them into a ceramic bowl instead!
Before drawing out the winner, who was ...

Oh Kimbofo, this was a wonderful game! Please do more of this in the future (if you have any books to spare, that is!)
I really loved the fact that you took pics to show how you did it, and the name that won.
Good for Wendy!

Thanks, Patricia. I always have books to give away, mainly because I live in a pokey little apartment and don't have room to keep everything I buy, so yes, I'll be running more of these in future.

Thanks ainelivia. You won't believe this, but I trained to write like that (during my undergrad degree when I took many landscape architecture/urban design classes), although my writing is nothing like it used to be, mainly because I do everything on computer these days.
