Is this the world's shortest cycle lane?

Bikelane

I took a little stroll through Bloomsbury this afternoon and came across this cycle lane running off Red Lion Square.  Is it not the shortest cycle lane you've ever seen? Why do they bother?

Hmmm, it is one of those "hey, cyclists are allowed to go the wrong way down this one-way road" jobbies?

I don't know. Looks to me like someone was almost trying to get rid of a few cyclists. Weird!

Mike, I'm not sure... I don't think it's a one-way street but I'd need to go back to double-check.

Revrunner, these things are all over London. They never fail to amuse me.

I think it's a great idea, cuts out the risk of a left hook.

In other words a car can't overtake then turn in front of you, you just have to be careful merging into traffic again.

Dave, you're right, but I think it lulls cyclists into a false sense of security, because they've got to merge in with the traffic again -- and some won't take the due consideration needed.

There's been a bit of chat about short bike lanes this week. I thought I had a winner at 10m in Gateshead, but then today I found that the Warrington Cycle Campaign has found a cycle lane in Leeds (http://karlmccracken.sweat365.com/2008/04/02/worlds-shortest-cycle-lane-a-clear-winner/) that's only ONE METRE long.
