I've really enjoyed my all-too brief time in Hong Kong, and wished I'd had a few more days to explore this amazing city. I must come back at some point, with T in tow, because I'm sure he'd love it as much as me.
Next up: mainland China. Our small tour group of seven (all from the UK, aside from one couple who come from Canada) will make the border crossing mid-afternoon before catching an overnight train from Shenzhen to Guilin.
I was slightly concerned when we met our tour leader, a Chinese native, last night: she told us to make sure we have adequate supplies of hand sanitizer and toilet paper for use in public toilets! I'm having visions of those horrendous 'squat over a hole' type toilets I had to use in Poland in 1998 and am wondering what I might have let myself in for!
I'm not sure what internet access will be like over the next few days, but I'm cheered by the fact that the Canadian couple are travel bloggers from Toronto and they're pretty keyed up to make sure they can post to their website on a regular basis. With our combined knowledge, we should be okay.
I do know that our hotel in Shanghai (December 1-2) has wi-fi, so expect to hear from me then. Provided, of course, that I can access Typepad...
