We've just spent a week in Blakeney on the north Norfolk coast, the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of London.
Much of the low-lying coastal area, comprising mainly salt marsh, is protected by sea defence walls, which double as walking tracks. This meant we were able to walk the mile-and-a-half from our rental cottage to the neighbouring village of Cley Next the Sea, where this stunning windmill dominates the skyline, without being run over by vehicles speeding along the narrow, twisty roads.
You can actually stay in the mill (it's a B&B) and it's claim to fame, if you believe the travel guide we purchased, is that it was once owned by James Blunt's parents. It was built in the early 19th Century and is a grade II* listed building.
