Today was an important day for so many reasons.
Barack Obama will carry the world on his shoulders, but, as Polly Toynbee so eloquently put it in today's Guardian, he has "the character to match the hour".
How refreshing to find an American president who listens, is thoughtful, compassionate and has a strong sense of justice and fairness for all. I particularly liked this quote, made in relation to the current global economic crisis, from his inauguration speech: "...this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control - that a nation cannot prosper long when it favours only the prosperous" [italics mine].
If only more governments, more individuals, thought this way then the world might not be in its current state of disarray.
