My first free weekend in a month and I had so many plans to do all those things I haven't had time for lately (such as a bit of pre-Christmas cleaning), only to find I've spent most of it in agony and unable to do anything physical at all.
A recurrent shoulder/neck problem has returned, something I usually get when I'm stressed or sat at my desk for too long. Basically the "triangle" between my neck, back and left-hand shoulder locks up, so that movement in certain directions is incredibly painful.
I first felt the soreness on Wednesday but hoped it would go away but it got progressively worse over the next couple of days and when I woke up yesterday morning I could barely move. I have spent the weekend treating it with a hot-pack and rubbing Deep Heat into the muscle. It feels ever so slightly better today but I'm in no shape to be cleaning the bathroom or scrubbing the kitchen floor as I had hoped to do.
Tomorrow morning I'll be calling my favourite sports massage therapist so he can sort it all out for me, but that usually means it will feel much worse before it gets better. He's treated the same condition for me several times in the past and it's no exagerration to say he'd give Mike Tyson a run for his money as far as sheer pummelling strength goes! I usually leave his consulting room feeling like I've been run over by a truck... but two days later I feel amazing.
