What would a trip to Coney Island be without a visit to Nathan's, a fast-food frankfurter restaurant famous for its annual hotdog eating competition? This year the winner ate 59 hotdogs in 10 minutes. Barf.
Mind you, it was the sense of history that intrigued me, rather than the famous contest: everyone from Al Capone to Cary Grant have been regular customers at this establishment, which was created by a Polish immigrant way back in 1916.
Still, one look at the menu, and it was enough to make my stomach churn. Seems it has a more drastic effect on some customers, judging by the signs inside the restaurant advising that a CPR kit is available and that the manager is happy to assist if asked! Can you imagine seeing a sign like that in a British (or Australian) eatery? Only in America, right?
I have to admit that the hot chips were pretty damn yummy though!
