Death of a movie star, death of a magazine
Australian actor Heath Ledger is found dead in his Manhattan apartment and it means little to me. I've never seen him in any movies, never seen him interviewed and know very little about him.
Then I find out that The Bulletin has been closed after 128 years and I feel like howling. I can just imagine how devastating it must be for the staff to be gathered in a room and then told that their magazine has folded. It was one of my favourite reads whenever I went home; I will miss it.

What a refreshing comment!

This just shows that you have your priorities in order!!
PS - I didn't know who Heath Ledger was either. Now other actors are on tv saying it's just like James Dean. Give me a break.

If I never saw 'Two Hands' starring Bryan Brown with Heath Ledger in 1999, I probably wouldn't have followed his career like I did. If you haven't seen this film Kim, you must. Bryan Brown is (again) brilliant. Heath was a young up and coming star in it and played alongside Mr Brown fabulously.
I too was saddened to read about The Bulletin. Apparently you can blame the internet for that. The Bullentin printed the best(est) article of INXS back in 1988, can you remember I actually went out and bought the mag? Me. A (then) 15 year old buying The Bullentin.

I'm not personally a huge Heath Ledger fan or anything, I just think that IT IS SAD when a 28 yr old dies of an accidental or deliberate overdose. The media does react hysterically when a famous person dies and says all kinds of untrue things which they never said or thought when the person was alive but I don't think that's a reason not to give a person's death a moment's thought.
Also, Heath Ledger isn't James Dean, but he was worth as much and his death therefore matters as much as James Dean's, Catherine. Did it occur to you that maybe some of those actors are just trying to cope with the death of someone they actually knew?
