Leadenhall Market is a beautifully preserved market in the heart of the City of London. It dates back to the 14th century but the current building was designed by Horace Jones in the late 19th century. I love the colours -- deep green, rich red and an assortment of golds and creams -- all bathed in a gentle light that filters through the glass roof. When we visited just after Christmas it was alive with City workers drinking lunch time pints and there was a real buzz about the place, not apparent in the surrounding areas. A must-see if you happen to be in London at any point in time.

I went to Manhattan on a five-day solo trip in October. I love Manhattan. I love the buildings and the canyon-like streets that seem to stretch forever into the distance.

I have always loved books, but this year I seemed to get more obsessed with them than ever. I discovered that I could acquire ready supplies of them without having to fork out any money, first, through a wonderful book exchange website called Book Mooch, and second, by having publishers send me advanced readers' copies for review on my book blog, Reading Matters. This photograph, however, represents one of the rare hauls I bought from Waterstones one Friday after a hectic week at work.

This was taken at yet another cemetery on yet another let's-look-for-famous-graves outing. It was a Sunday afternoon and we wandered around Brompton Cemetery, another belonging to the Magnificent Seven, where the likes of John Wisden, founder of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, and Emmeline Pankhurt, leading suffragette, lay buried.
